According to National News, during religious prayers, priests install cell phone jammers to stop people from using their phones. The priest of the Church of Our Lady of Mount Sacrosanctum in Naples, a certain country, encountered such a situation: people were reluctant to put down their phones even during important occasions such as prayer. To solve this problem, the priest decided to buy two cell phone jammers, each costing 90 yuan. In an interview, the priest explained that he took this measure not because of impatience, but because he noticed that people were distracted and embarrassed when he suggested turning off their phones during prayers.
Cell phone jammers work by scanning wireless channels of different frequencies and blocking the stable microwave signals emitted by communication base stations. This prevents mobile phones from establishing a connection with the base station, effectively blocking the mobile phone signal.
Although local police reportedly support the priest’s actions, not everyone welcomes this strategy. Local shop owners expressed their frustration, claiming that the cell phone jammers interfered with their point of sale (POS) machines.
It is worth noting that in many countries, the unauthorized use of cell phone jammers is illegal. A man in Florida, a certain country, was fined $48,000 in the first half of this year for carrying a cell phone jammer in his car, highlighting the legal consequences of such devices.
