The Changing Landscape of 5G: Mobile Introduces New Radio and Television Frequency Band
In terms of 5G commercial licenses issued in our country, China Telecom and China Unicom predominantly utilize the global mainstream 5G frequency band of 3.5GHz. China Mobile, on the other hand, based on the national conditions of our country, primarily employs the 2.6GHz and 4.9GHz 5G frequency bands. Additionally, China Mobile has been experimenting with the 700MHz frequency band. The disparity between high and low frequency bands lies in their characteristics. Higher frequency bands offer greater capacity and faster internet speeds but have limited coverage, while lower frequency bands have wider coverage but comparatively slower internet speeds. Regarding the current 5G network construction in our country, the latest information reveals that the number of 5G base stations already built has reached 847,000, with China Mobile accounting for a higher number than China Telecom + China Unicom. Considering the frequency bands owned by these three major communication operators, achieving comprehensive nationwide coverage would require a total of 4-5 million 5G base stations.
The radio and television sector possesses the highly coveted 700MHz frequency band, known for its extensive coverage advantages. A single 700MHz 5G base station can cover an area equivalent to approximately 10 3.5GHz base stations.
